However, if there was an adapter that could allow me to connect all of my USB 3.0-capable drives to my iMac's Firewire 800 port and harness its higher speed (compared to my iMac's USB 2.0 ports), it would be worth spending money on such a device because it would work with every USB 3.0 drive I've bought or will buy.
I recently bought a 3rd Party PCIe Firwire card on my last visit to Fry's. IDotConnect Firewire 800/400 Combo, made by PPA-USA seemed good at $79, and it stated to be Mac compatible with 10.4 or later. But my results proved otherwise. I tried 2 different cards in each of the 3 remaining PCIe slots, but my Mac would lock up or be functional until I plugged a device, then crash.
I was trying to find a cheaper card, but I guess you get what you pay for. I am going to try one of the brands that specialize in Mac next.
